In 2013, as part of a dissolution trial where we represented the father relocation was the primary issue at trial. The mother was not a legal resident of the U.S. The parties were in the U.S. on the father’s L1 Visa. The mother would be forced to leave the country and return to Ireland once the dissolution was final. The mother sought to relocate the parties’ 8 year old daughter who had been born and raised in the US back to Ireland with her. The GAL agreed with the mother and recommended that the child be permitted to relocate with the mother. The trial court ordered that the child would remain in the US with her father. The mother had a history of severe depression and had been arrested for assaulting the father in the past.
